PROBLEM: Algae

The Problem:
Algae is a group of different organisms that live in wet areas. It is not a plant as such, as it has no roots or leaves. This makes algae particularly dangerous on hard surfaces such as concrete and tiles as it does not bond onto the surface at all and will just slide under foot.

Algae is particularly bad in areas of high humidity and sub-topical or tropical climates.

The Consequences:
Algae not only makes exterior surfaces extremely slippery and dangerous, it can also encourage the growth of other potentially dangerous and unsightly organisms such as Lichens and other fungi.

BLACK MOULDS

The Problem:
Black mould is a fungi that has a green and black colour. It thrives in areas that are damp, shaded and have moderate temperatures. Black mould can grow on just about anything, including concrete. Keep the concrete dry to prevent black mold from forming in the first place.

The Consequences:
Black mould not only makes exterior surfaces extremely slippery and dangerous, it can also encourage the growth of other potentially dangerous and unsightly organisms such as lichens and other fungi. It does not look good and can detract from the look of the property.

The Problem:
Calcium and lime are minerals that occur naturally in our water supply. Overtime, these minerals build up on sufaces of appliances, cups jugs and sinks.

The Consequences:
Calcium and Lime build up causes unsightly stains on sufaces and can result in foul smells and flavours in cooking equipment and drinking vessels such as kettles and jugs.

PROBLEM: Mildew

The Problem:
Mildew is a grey, mould-like growth caused. It can thrive on any organic matter such as wood, paper, fabric, leather and more. It is a problem on the walls an cielings of many homes.

Mildew is a primitive form of plant growth. It grows from spores that abound everywhere and will grow in any home or premises where the humidity remains high. Mildew can occur in any type of construction and is common in both mild and severe climates. It’s often found on shoes and clothing in wardrobes, on wallpaper, curtains and ceilings.

Mildew is caused by certain types of mould and generally develops in warm, damp environments.

The Consequences:
Mildew feeds off the surface it is growing on so will eventually deteriorate finishes and break down surfaces. Fabric and paper (such as wallpaper) are particularly vulnerable and can be eaten away to the point where they disintegrate completely.

The Problem:
Mosses are very simple plants, usually green, that grow profusely on pourous surfaces such as concrete, brick, wood and tile in areas of low temperature and high moisture levels.

PROBLEM: Mould

The Problem:
Mould is a collection of tiny spores that grow in damp, dark places indoors and outdoors.

Mould is a particularly nasty hosehold problem as unlike many funguses, it has no natural predators and many conventional cleaners are ineffective against it.

It is important to note that although mould spores require water to grow and multiply, they do not require moisture to survive. Therfore, simply drying an affected area will not get rid of the mould. The spores will go in to a "dormant" state and will then start multiplying again as soon as moisture is available.

Mould generally requires 60% or greater humidity for only a small part of the year to grow.

The Consequences:
Mould is not only unsightly, it is also very dangerous and damaging to your family's health. Mould spores agrivate asthma and other allergic conditions and some varieties can cause a multitude of other health problems. Left untreated, mould infestations can eat away at interior walls and structural material, leaving houses unstable and dangerous.
